Obituary of Dennis Carl Fisher Sr.
May the work I’ve Done Speak for me, When I’m resting in my grave, there is nothing that can be said, But when I stand before my God, I want to hear Him say Well done my Good and Faithful Servant; Well done. Dennis left his family and friends at 5:45 am Friday morning, April 25, 2014 to join his ancestors and deceased loved ones including his parents Evanston Fisher and Mary Fisher Jones to whom he was born on March 31, 1942. God sent his angel of silence to claim his own; with frosty fingers sealed the lips of Dennis Carl Fisher, Sr. He was 72 years young. Dennis graduated from Coleman High School in Greenville, Miss in 1961 and served in the United States Army. He united in Holy matrimony with Lois C. Jackson on January 4, 1963. He was a cast iron welder for 50 yrs. Dennis relocated to Harrisonburg, VA in 1972 and later started his own business Fisher’s Cylinder Head Repair. He was a workaholic but enjoyed playing cards, sitting, drinking Jack Daniels and talking with family and friends. He maintained high personal integrity and sincerity among interactions with his wife, children and grandchildren whom he treasured. During his children’s (Cathy and Carl) school years, one of his greatest enjoyments was going to school activities such as: track meets, basketball/football games and band concerts. He always said “his son Carl can play drums better than I can because he can read and mimic music.” Dennis would tell his son whom he called “Killer” “Keep it going & move on.” Dennis was a unique man of strength and inspiration and he was deeply admired by his family & friends not only for his kindness but his courage and dignity. The young people knew if Mr. Fisher saw you doing anything wrong he would let you know. They always gave him respect. He was also a realist who faced all life’s obstacles courageously. He was direct and did not beat around the bushes. The family are most grateful for the wonderful treatment, care and concern from the people of Harrisonburg Health & Rehab Center, a special thank you to the nurses on west wing. When medical treatment ceased, we were fortunate that Dennis came under the care of Rockingham Memorial Hospice Care. Both made every effort to ensure Dennis’s quality of life was maintained. Honoring Dennis’ request, his body will be cremated. His statement for many years was “don’t put all that money in the ground”. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl Jones, Richard (cut buddy), Joseph and Steve Fisher, and one sister, Anita Durette. He fought the fight, he kept the faith and now he has gone home to God. To cherish his memories are, His wife of 51 yrs. Lois Cecelia Fisher, one daughter Catherine Anita Bryant, husband Alan, Lansing, Kansas; one son Dennis Carl Fisher, Jr., wife, Pamela, Harrisonburg, VA; two grandchildren, Alexys Jayde and Christopher Carl Bryant; a nephew and niece whom he help raised Elliot and Ashley Jones (he was Ahda to them); two godchildren Natalia Botkins and Chelsey Algood; eight sisters: Wanda Alford, Bellingham, WA, Laura Harris, Springfield, Mass, Shirley Reed, Baltimore, Maryland, Edna Horton, Jackson, Miss., Joyce Martin, San Diego, Calif, Mignonette Harris, Atlanta, GA, Christine Brown, Chicago, Ill, and Rosemary Harris husband Marshall, Memphis, Tenn; five brothers, Scott Jones, Randy Jones, wife Sandra, Richmond, VA, Dr. George Jones, Philippines, Daniel Fisher, wife Rosyne, Arizona, and Marvin Fisher, wife Della, Dallas, TX.
