Alfred Charles Katz

Alfred Charles Katz 82, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born on February 4, 1930 in Frankfurt, Germany and was the son of the late Lugwig H. and Karoline Zimmer Katz.
Alfred received his BS from O.D.U. in Norfolk; after 30 years of service he retired from the US Navy as a Commander. He was of the Lutheran faith.
On February 9, 1952, he married the former Eleanor Mazzo, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Michael L. Katz and wife, Judy, of Chesapeake, Alfred C. Katz, Jr. of Grottoes, Keith R. Katz of Norfolk; two daughters, Barbara E. Lyman and husband, Todd, of Japan, Lilli P. Thorsell and husband, Dean, of Oak Hill, VA; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Gayle Katz of Philadelphia, PA.
A service with military rites by Sugar Grove, WV, Naval Station, will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, July 20, 2012 in the mausoleum at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Cdr. Katz will be cremated and there will be no viewing.
