Margaret L. Kernel

Margaret Legg Kernel, age 95, of Hampton, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023. Margaret was one of five daughters and was born in West Virginia to Nellie Lawson and Samuel Legg. Margaret loved to care for others and that love extended out during her time as an Aid for the elderly at Dixie Hospital and Shelton on the Bay Assisted Living. Margaret’s love knew no bounds and she was always there for her older sisters up until the time of their passing. She enjoyed her time in church, any activity that was associated with the church and taking strolls, going bowling, attending gospel concerts and spending time with her beloved family and friends. Margaret was also a devout member of Bethel Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia. Margaret is survived by her daughter Kay Kernel Rowe (Jesse); her sister Helena Cooper; her grandchildren Jeremy Rowe (Brenda) and Jenny Rowe Huisenga (David); her great-grandchildren Wesley Hughes, Justin Huisenga, Shelby Rowe Buel (Caleb), Amber Huisenga, Brooke Rowe, and Jessica Huisenga; and her great-great grandson Zachary Levi Buel. Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved spouse of 52 years Raymond Kernel; her parents Nellie and Samuel Legg; and her sisters Verbie Ailshire, Vida Williams and Evelyn Peters. A visitation for Margaret will be held Friday, August 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
