Let’s start with a story

Every person’s life has a story. At Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, we are storytellers. Let us help you tell your or your loved one’s life story like no one else can. With our Life Well Celebrated® service, we create one-of-a-kind tributes that celebrate a loved one’s passions, interests and hobbies.

Was grandfather an avid angler? Our team can create a fishing-themed celebration with his prized fishing pole on display, a video slideshow of his best catches and a catered seafood dinner. Did mom love to boogie on the dance floor? We can throw a dance party with a DJ spinning her favorite tunes.

There are thousands of ways to celebrate a life. All we ask is for you to provide the inspiration—we’ll take care of all the details.

When you walk through the double doors of the entrance, you’re greeted with an inviting fireplace in the lobby. To the right is our main chapel, which has plenty of seating in traditional fixed wooden pews. The space is simply decorated with a few indoor trees and elegant chandelier lighting. The video and sound technology is modern and updated, with (2) 70" televisions at the front of the room for showing video tributes.

We also have a lovely Celebration Room that offers flexible seating arrangements with round tables or living room-style furniture. History

Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home dates back to 1909, when Lawrence B. Wood and his wife, Margaret Patrick Wood, opened Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home on Victoria Boulevard in the downtown area of Hampton. Over the years, the funeral home business grew to meet the needs and requests of the surrounding Tidewater communities.

In 2000, the funeral home relocated to the grounds of Parklawn Memorial Park on North Armistead Avenue and changed its name to Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.

As a Level Four Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, we are honored to serve our nation’s heroes and take this responsibility seriously. We have taken steps to ensure our staff is knowledgeable of all the benefits available to military veterans and their families.

In addition, we host community events annually in honor of our veterans and work closely with local veterans organizations. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran’s memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

Hampton and the surrounding Virginia Peninsula area has a vast military population, and Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Parklawn Memorial Park are honored to serve veterans and members of the military. In September 2017, Parklawn Memorial Park hosted a traveling exhibit called “Remembering Our Fallen.” The memorial displays photos of those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the war on terrorism. The moving exhibit served as an important reminder that brave men and women fight to defend our freedom every day.

Involved in the Hamptons community

The teams at Parklawn and Parklawn-Wood are active in the Hampton area and surrounding Peninsula communities. Throughout the year, we host events that all members of the community are invited to attend. We have a number of seminars available for the Your Life, Your Legacy estate planning series in partnership with Wilson Law PLC to help community members plan for the future.

To celebrate the holiday season, we take part in Toys for Tots. On Mother’s Day, we host a celebration honoring all the mothers who are buried in the cemetery. Our associates pass out flowers to attendees and help them locate their loved ones’ graves.

We participate as a training site for the Tidewater Community College Mortuary School, and we also contribute to area civic organizations and police departments.
