Obituary of Gayle Eppes Archebelle
Our beloved Gayle met the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 15, while peacefully sleeping. It was said of her as a child that she never walked anywhere – she always ran. That is how Gayle lived her life, running full tilt toward its rewards and challenges alike. Starting her first career as a bank teller before there were computers, she rarely made a mistake in adding long columns of numbers. Her interest in interior design and talent for custom draperies later led her and her best friend (and future sister-in-law) Sandra Archebelle to found Gayle & Sandra’s Window Fashions. Together, they lovingly adorned the windows of many clients in the Virginia Beach area during the 1980s and 1990s. Gayle never met a stranger, welcoming all she met into her life. She was president of the 4H Club in high school and was elected president of the Woods of Avalon Garden Club in 1976. She was a loving mother who doted on her children and grandchildren and was always their biggest cheerleader, no matter what they were facing. She especially loved the Chesapeake Bay beach, where she could often be seen walking to and from the Lynnhaven Pier. While she also lived in Florida to be near her children and grandchildren, the bay beach called to her, and she always considered Virginia Beach to be her home. Left to treasure her memory are her husband, Glenn Archebelle; son, Ron Flynn, his wife April, and their children, Caleb and Chase; her daughter, Carol Flynn Archebelle, her husband Bill Archebelle, their children, Billy and Chris, and great grandchild, Lux; as well as her stepchildren Rodney Archebelle, wife Lynda; Natalie Archebelle Register, husband Mike; and Rhonda Archebelle Smith, husband Robert; with their five children and two great grandchildren; as well as her brother, Gene Eppes, his wife, Mary Nell; their children, Susan and husband, Scott, and Beth and husband David. A celebration of life for Gayle will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A reception following service will occur Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 4:15 PM, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. The private interment will occur Monday, August 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
