C. Ray Lewis

C. Ray Lewis, 68, passed away peacefully at home after a two year battle with cancer on Sunday, July 20, 2014.
Born in Elizabeth City, NC, Ray spent his early years in Buckingham County, VA and moved to Hampton in 1951. He attended Willis Syms-Eaton Elementary, Armstrong Elementary, H. Wilson Thorpe Junior HS where he was the Deacon Mascot, and graduated from Hampton HS in 1967. He graduated from Danville Technical Institute in Drafting and Design in 1969. Ray was the owner/operator of Game Time Amusement. He formerly worked for M. Price Distributors and Newport News Shipbuilding.
Ray enjoyed recreational sports in Hampton and Newport News for many years. He lived life to the fullest. He was a member of the BPOE, Lodge #366 at 95 Tidemill Lane, Hampton.
Ray was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma A. Lewis; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Walter Tarver; and nephew, Walter L. Tarver, III. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Michelle Schmitt-Lewis; step-son, JT Schmitt; step-daughter, Kelly Holland and husband, Jimmy; twin brother, Roy Lewis and wife, Patricia; sisters-in-law, Linda Cooper and husband, Dennis, and Terry Davis and Robert; and brother-in-law, Michael Moore and Lisa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at 11 am, Thursday, July 24 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
