Audrey Mae McNamara

Audrey Vanderberry McNamara, 89, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. Audrey was a lifelong Peninsula resident and graduated from Hampton High School. She worked at the Bank of Warwick and Newport News Shipbuilding, retiring from NNS in 1987. She was preceded in death by her Father, Robert Carroll Vanderberry, and Mother, Dora Whitley Vanderberry; her husband, James William McNamara, Jr., and her youngest son, Donald Leslie McNamara. She is survived by her son, David Charles McNamara, and wife, Willi, of Simpsonville, SC; her beloved grandchildren: Jessica Lawson of Raleigh, NC, Whitney McNamara of Providence Forge, VA, David J. McNamara of Columbia, SC, and William Charles McNamara of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by her half-brother, Robert Vanderberry, and wife, Roxie, of Raleigh, NC; daughter-in-law, Sara G. McNamara, of Hayes, VA; and a cousin beloved as a sister, Juanita Duncan, of Newport News, VA. The family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to Carl Colonna and Ned Walker, two dear friends who stood by Audrey and assisted her for years, especially in recent months. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and will be followed by a graveside service at 1:30 PM at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, VA. Audrey loved to read, travel, and watch the sunrise at the Outer Banks. But, most of all she loved, comforted, fed, and took great care of her family and the many strangers brought home by them all. While we have lost our Mother, Grandmother, and dear friend, Heaven has welcomed a beautiful angel.
