William Drysdale Yeadon was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, William will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
He was the son of Walter and Evelyn Yeadon. William grew up in Brookside, Nova Scotia, Canada. William was raised with one sibling. He had an older brother, Dale. William was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his brother. They experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, William had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. William was an active child who took part in swimming, basketball, hockey, water skiing and tennis. However, to William, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
On April 15, 1971 William exchanged wedding vows with Janis R. O’Harra they married in Winterhaven, California. Empathic and loyal, William was committed to making his new family happy.
William worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. William was blessed with six children, four daughters, Kelley, Tracey, Shannon and Cindy and two sons, David and Chuck. Another blessing for William was the gift of eleven grandchildren.
William found pleasure in sports. William was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were the San Diego Chargers.
Throughout his life, William was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout his later years, William was an active member of the Anza Lions Club. One of his favorite past time included publishing the Wellton Diplomat, which was part of several small business start-ups that included: Jans Tropical Fish, B & B Small Engine Repair and most recently Wellton Hay and Grain. William also enjoyed collecting Hot Wheels.
William worked for the Union Tribune first as a Pressman and later as a Press Room Foreman. He worked for the Union Tribune for nearly 30 years. When William’s retirement finally arrived, he was well prepared. His new life involved relocating to Anza, California and then to Wellton, Arizona. In retirement, he found new pleasure in producing the Wellton Diplomat. Even in retirement, William continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. William was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
William passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Life Care Center of Yuma, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Janis of Wellton, Arizona; his children, Kelley, Tracey (Al) of La Mesa, California, Shannon (Sam) of Santee, California, David (Angela) of Vancouver, Washington, Chuck (Tina) and Cindy L. (Jeff) Keiser of La Mesa, California; eleven grandchildren; nephews, Mike, Bill, Terry and his niece Kathy. William was predeceased by his loving parents, Walter and Evelyn Yeadon and his brother, Dale Yeadon.
A private cremation was handled by Johnson Mortuary in Yuma, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to William Drysdale Yeadon’s favorite charity in his honor, Hospice Compassus.
Simply stated, William was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. William leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember William Drysdale Yeadon.
