Walton Brooks was called home to our Lord on March 26th surrounded by his loving family and faithful Basset Hound, Baylee, while at home. He was born on December 15, 1935 in Durant, Oklahoma to Walter and Dollie Brooks. Walton “PeeWee” grew up in Somerton, attended Somerton Grammar School, graduated from Yuma Union High School Class of ’54, and also attended the University of Arizona. He was employed by O’Malleys, where he started stocking shelves and worked his way up through the ranks into management. After retiring from O’Malleys, he founded Brooks Development and Construction, where he contracted with the Cocopah Indian Tribe and was hired on as Construction Director. Prior to his retirement, he was working on developing Ft. Yuma Hospital for the Quechan Tribe.
To all who knew him, PeeWee was a unique and caring individual who dedicated and devoted his life to bettering both his family and the city of Yuma. He loved to fish, hunt, camp with his family and friends, as well as play and coach baseball, and supported all youth sports. He was also a member of Somerton Rotary, Ft. Yuma Rotary, and Caballeros.
PeeWee is survived by his wife Patty Craddock Brooks of 63 years, sons Mark (Jeanine Brooks), Joe (Leslie Brooks), daughter Denise McCleney, brother Bobby Brooks, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren arriving in September. He loved his family and enjoyed watching them grow.
PeeWee is preceded in death by his parents Walter Brooks and Dollie Sullivan, brothers Harrison and Billy Brooks, RL, Jerry, and Joe Sullivan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Unicare Hospice, 2180 S. 4th Avenue, Suite C, Yuma, Arizona 85364 c/o Walt Brooks.
