Shirley was born in Welland, Ontario, Canada, and was the last surviving sibling of seven children. A compassionate and caring soul from an early age, she dedicated her life to the service of others. After completing her nursing studies, Shirley moved to New Mexico, where she met and married her true love, Dr. Ron Morris.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ron Morris, and her daughter, Carol Butler. Her family legacy of warmth and kindness will be carried on by her children: Laurie (Bob) Doering, David Morris, and Trish (Joe) Valentin. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Kara Imboden, Traci Doering, Logan Butler, Mike Doering, Ashley Doering, Bryce Schoenborn, and Alexis Schoenborn, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Additionally, she has two great grandchildren, Phoenix and Wrenly Imboden.
A skilled and deeply empathetic nurse, Shirley found immense joy in her work with Hospice care. She spent many years offering comfort, compassion, and support to patients in their final days, and it brought her great peace to know she made a difference in so many lives. In her own final days, Shirley was enveloped in the same care and support she had given so selflessly throughout her life.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Yuma for the care they provided during her last few weeks. A special thanks goes out to Elena Alfaro, whose loving support and compassionate care made a profound difference during Shirley’s final two years.
Shirley was known for her kindness, humor, and deep compassion. Her laughter was contagious, her heart was vast, and her ability to make others feel seen and loved was a gift she shared generously. In every stage of her life, she touched countless people with her gentle spirit, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, care, and warmth.
Shirley’s family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with those she loved and lost. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who carry her love and compassion forward.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Hospice of Yuma, whose support has been invaluable during Shirley’s final journey.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 11th 2:30 p.m. at Journey Church, 3225 E. County 14th Street.
Rest in peace, mom. You will forever be loved and missed.
