Joe Y. Quintero, age 89, was born July 7, 1924 in Yuma, Arizona to his parents David and Dolores Escalante Quintero. He moved to Los Angeles, CA where he lived for 22 years before returning to his beloved Yuma, AZ.
Joe lived a long and full life. He loved his family foremost, his friends, enjoyed playing his guitar, and loved music. He served as a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a contractor in construction, and he was a perfectionist at his work. Joe expected high professional standards from those who worked for and with him. His work ethics and artistic talents remain in the many structures, walls, commercial buildings, and mobile home communities in Yuma and surrounding areas. Joes' most common saying was, "If you're going to do something, do it right, or don't do it at all!"
His first marriage to Angelina Carillo in 1945 blessed him with four children: sons, Robert D. of Tucson, Joe C. (Sandra) and Adrian D. Quintero; and daughter, Herlinda Quintero Jackson (Carlos) all of Whittier, CA. His second marriage to Maria R. Quintero in 1976 gave him five children: sons, Javier (Mary), Victor, and Abraham all of Yuma, AZ; and Isaac (Michelle) Quintero of Burnsville, NC; daughter, Dolores (David) Wolff of Phoenix, AZ.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Maria R. Quintero; 9 children; 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Dolores Quintero; sisters, Manuela Caballero, Angelina Rodriguez, Matilde Quintero, and Antonia Quintero; brothers, Andres, Francisco, Modesto, Angel, and Benino Quintero; and 1 granddaughter, Natasha Jackson Garrett.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel, 795 W. 28th Street, Yuma with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by internment at Desert Lawn Memorial Park with Veteran Services being conducted by American Legion Post 19.
