This isn’t a traditional obituary, but when you’re the kids of a maverick from Wyoming, that’s what happens.
It took a while to get this obituary posted for a few reasons. One is that there were some logistics to sort out. We know you’ll understand that we chose a later date when we hope we can all be together to celebrate your life. Another reason is that we wanted to create a site where people can go to honor you. This is a site where friends and family will be able to read the collaborative tribute to you from your children and grandchildren, add comments, post pictures and see ongoing comments and pictures as we all add throughout the year. The final reason is that it just made it seem more real to actually post this. We miss you so much.
Jerry was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on March 28, 1941, to Gene and Cassie who were a rock-solid source of support and encouragement in his life.
Jerry attended Westminster College and the University of Utah where he studied geology and social work. He retired in 1997 from 30 years of service in the state of Utah as a social worker. Jerry and Jo created welcoming homes in Sugarhouse (Utah), Donnelly (Idaho) and Yuma (Arizona).
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Eugene Terrence and Cassie Williams Lane.
He is survived by his wife, his pearl, Jo Lane; brothers Jack (JoAnn) Lane and Gene Lane; children Michele (Bryan) Fridlund, Denise (Lloyd) Thayne, Terry (Sandy) Lane, and Jeff (Sally) Alworth; grandchildren Nathan (Amy), Adam (Samantha), Jeremiah, Elena, Christen (Allan), Cassie (Brent), and Daniel; great grandchildren Nora, James, Kurtis and Karter.
Due to the resurgence of COVID, the family has chosen to schedule the Celebration of Life for June 18th, 2022, the day before Father’s Day. This will be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming. This was not an easy decision and we thank you for your graciousness as we make these difficult choices.
