He was born May 1, 1930, to Ramon Serrano Ruiz and Maria Cruz Ruiz, in Sinoquipe, Sonora, where he spent his growing years. He moved to the Yuma area in 1951 living in Somerton until moving to Yuma in 1969, where he lived the rest of his life.
His working years consisted of working as a mechanic, specializing in repairing cotton picker machines with Sturges Farms until 1971. He then went to work with John Deere Companies, Braden Machinery, Empire Machinery and then RDO Farm Equipment until his retirement in September 2010.
He is survived by his wife Juanita (Garcia) and their 4 children, sons: Phillip (Sandra) Ruiz, Victor (Oralia) Ruiz, Raymond (Maria) Ruiz, and daughters Laura (Larry) Mitchell along with Becky Ruiz, whom he raised from birth. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and his lone surviving sibling, Delfina Alvarado Cruz.
He is preceded in death by both parents, his brothers Juan Ruiz, Ignacio Ruiz, and sisters Josefina Romero, Socorro Nolasco, and Manuela (Chata) Arviso. All siblings resided or reside in Hermosillo, Sonora.
As a devout Christian, he was actively involved for many years in his church, Templo de Oracion, in Somerton, Arizona. He thoroughly looked forward to and enjoyed his regular trips back to his birthplace, it allowed him an opportunity to go horseback riding and assist with various tasks around the family farm. He also enjoyed visiting family in Sinoquipe, Bamori and Hermosillo, Sonora. After retiring, his hobbies were gardening and his daily morning walks at Smucker park.
Pallbearers are Phillip Ruiz III, Victor Ruiz Jr., Raymond Ruiz Jr., Felicia Kozina, Erica Rivera and Andrew Razo. Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Mitchell, Danny Garcia, Romulo Villegas, Rosendo Contreras, Mark Rodriguez Jr., Crespin (Jay) Munoz Jr.
