With the nation in economic depression, Don lived in an orphanage for the first 2 years of his life. He was reunited with his mother and raised by his step-father, Grady Harris Stockton. He worked at his step-father’s sawmill until he enlisted in the US Navy on May 11, 1948, serving until May 8, 1952 as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic. He then enlisted in the US Air Force on May 11, 1952, also as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic, advancing to the rank of Master Sergeant until retiring on December 1, 1969. He was recognized for his excellence in his field. Following his military service, he worked for Westinghouse and then General Electric winding motors and generators. Then for the City of Spokane, WA maintaining emergency vehicles.
Don is the father of David and Catherine by his first wife, Maxine; the father of Darrell by his second wife, Diane; and husband to Ruth since June 6, 1987, where they lived in Spokane, Washington, until moving to Wellton, Arizona in 1997.
Don enjoyed many things during his active life, including John Wayne Movies, roller skating, pool, cards, building and flying model airplanes, travel and most of all learning about science and technology.
Don is survived by his wife, Ruth Waite; his sons, David Waite and Darrell (Michelle) Waite; daughter, Catherine; granddaughters, Crystal and Kara; and stepdaughter, Judy (Steve) Zimmerman; five step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA.
