Carol graduated from high school in Champaign, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors in Home Economics from the College of Agriculture. She continued her education and received her Masters of Science Degree in Education.
January 29, 1949, she married Neil Fredrick Walker, her one and only love. Sadly, Neil passed away at the very young age of 28. In her remaining 64 years, Carol never remarried.
She is survived by her children Christy (Mickey) Wammack and Neil Alan Walker (Linda Gonzales); four grandchildren - Rebecca Land, Jennifer Wammack, Christopher (Mindi) Wammack, Courtney (Courtney) Wammack; five greatgrandchildren - Rachel Land, Ralph "Trae" Land III, Morgan Geary, Kyle Wammack, Gage Wammack.
Carol began her rewarding teaching career at Yuma High School in 1958. She protected, educated and parented thousands of children, until her retirement 1982. She was a beloved and respected woman in the Yuma community because of her dedication to Home Economics Related Occupations (HERO), FEAST Club, Future Homemakers of America (FHA) Club, and Modeling Club. She was a dear and loyal friend to many.
Carol was an avid traveler. She traveled to most of the United States including Alaska and Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, Egypt, Tunisia, Spain, and Israel. She enjoyed cruises, even one on a freighter hauling bulk wheat to the Middle East. She was physically active for the duration of her life. She walked several miles every morning after retirement (exceptions for rain and weekends only), water skied in her 80's, even YMCA silver sneakers in her 90's.
Graveside services will be held at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Yuma on Tuesday, January 24th at 2:00 pm. Immediately following, a dinner will be held at the American Legion, Post 19, Virginia Dr from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Yuma, Humane Society of Yuma, or a local charity of your choosing.
