Camerina Escobar passed away at the age of 84 on Friday, February 10, 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the surviving wife of the long time Yuma tailor, Angel Escobar who passed way February 3, 2001. Camerina was born October 5, 1927 in Monte Escobedo, Jalisco, Mexico.
The Escobar family moved to the Yuma Area from Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, in the summer of 1962. Camerina's husband, Angel had been transferred to Yuma from El Centro, California, by Mr. George R. Harris, when Mr. Harris opened his second men's store at the Yuma Mesa Shopping Center (which was brand new back then). Angel, subsequently, was employed by Vade Long, after he had bought the men's store. In the early 70's, Angel opened up his own tailor store in the Yuma Downtown area. Angel was well known to many prominent families, businesses and professional people in the Yuma Area. Camerina worked along her husband’s side for the first few years and then became a homemaker. She was a faithful active member of Immaculate Conception Church, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and interior decorating.
Camerina is survived by her sons, Jose Angel Escobar of Los Angeles, California Jaime Escobar and Richard Escobar both of Yuma, Arizona; daughters, Rosa (Manuel) Castaneda of Yuma, Arizona, Olga (James) St. Pierre of Phoenix, Arizona, and Blanca (Tom) Rudeen of Mesa, Arizona; grandchildren, Esteban Castaneda, Veronica Castaneda, Jaime Eduardo Escobar, Maricela Escobar, Erica Escobar, Christopher Escobar, Tom Rudeen and Camerina Rudeen, she also leaves behind her five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Angel Escobar, son Eduardo Escobar and her parents Leopoldo and Guadalupe Sanchez.
A Wake will be held at Johnson Mortuary Chapel Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M. with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will take place at Immaculate Conception Church Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Her final resting place will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Peace in Yuma, Arizona. Pallbearers are Jose Angel Escobar, Jaime Escobar, Richard Escobar and James St. Pierre. Honorary Pallbearers are Alejandro Meza, Horacio Martinez, and Manuel Esteban Castaneda.
Camerina was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend, she will be missed by all that knew her. Arrangements under the direction of Johnson Mortuary & Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Yuma, AZ.
