Anna M. Vitolins peacefully passed away at the age of 103 on May 30, 2015. Her husband Eduard A. Vitolins preceded her in death in 1984. Anna is also preceded in death by all of her immediate family member.
Anna lived independently and maintained her own home until recently. She enjoyed gardening and following sports avidly. Anna also enjoyed following her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments.
Anna arrived in Yuma in 1950 in the middle of August after spending five years in many displaced persons camps. This was after escaping with her family from her native country of Latvia eight hours before the Russians invaded.
Anna is survived by daughters Mara Tyree (Thomas) and Brigita Jones Golden (Thomas). She is also survived by grandchildren Tiffany Tyree (Victor Alvarez), Ryan Tyree ( Lija), Michael Jones (Brooke) and Jeffrey Jones, along with 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anna was born in Valmiera, Latvia on June 24, 1911 and graduated from Commerce School. She was an accountant for her father's textile business. Upon arriving in Yuma, Anna became member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Family viewing will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at Johnson Mortuary, 1415 S. First Avenue, Yuma with services to be begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment immediately following at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Anna's name to Hospice of Yuma, 1824 S. 8th Avenue, Yuma, Az 85364.
