Johnie Eleanor Carnell

1944 - 2022

Johnie Eleanor Lugo Carnell peacefully passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022, with her husband and sons by her side. She was 78 years old and is survived by her husband Tom Carnell, her sons, Louis and Sean Lugo, her two stepsons, Casey and Mike Carnell, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters Jeannie Dare and Nancy Roth.

Johnie was born in Tennessee on April 22, 1944, to her loving parents John and Susan Godfrey. They instilled the importance of love and family which she undoubtedly demonstrated with her family and friends. The family later moved to California where Johnie started her own family and career.

Johnie spent her life spreading love and creating beauty both in her personal and professional life. She expressed her passion for beauty in her career as a cosmetologist for over 50 years, shared her avid love for oil painting by gifting her paintings, and lovingly spread a little holiday spirit through her elaborate Christmas décor every year. Johnie had an unwavering devotion to her family. She largely raised her two sons as a single mother and cared for both of her parents until their passing. Johnie married Tom Carnell and they shared 40 years together and loved to travel.
