Robert (Bob) Eugene Batt, 88, of Sun City AZ died Friday January 18, 2019 at his home, surrounded by family. Robert was born December 20, 1930 in Brazil, IN to Robert Lorenzo Batt and Mary Haverkamp. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis IN, and was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea. He was employed by Eli Lilly company, working in the capsule manufacturing plant for 41 years. After retirement, he and his wife Eleanor moved to Sun City AZ, where they lived until the time of his death.
Bob enjoyed working with model trains, both at the Sun City Model Railroad Club where he was an active member for many years, and in his back yard where he had a large G-scale layout. He spent many a day volunteering for the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, and driving players to and from the airport for pro golf tournaments where he collected numerous signatures from golfers such as Jack Nicholas and Gary Player. He also enjoyed golfing, playing table tennis, cruising, and had a love of music.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor Batt; children Tamara Smith (Kenneth Smith), Loretta Hostettler (Randy Hostettler), Robert Andrew Batt (Shelly Batt), and Angela Walthour (Jack Walthour); sisters Mary Jane Claffey, Lucille Hemmer, and Ginny Krider; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation hours will be held Tuesday January 22, 2019, 4:00 – 8:00 pm, at Golden Door Chapel, 11211 W Michigan Ave, Youngtown AZ. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at Golden Door Chapel Wednesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 am, followed by 12:30 pm interment services at the National Memory Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ.
