Mathias Begay, 52, passed away on February 18, 2023, in Glendale, AZ. He was born on May 25, 1970 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the son of Leo Begay of Naschitti, NM and the late Esther L. Begay of Black Mesa, AZ.
Mathias graduated from Glendale High School in 1990. After high school, he served a two year LDS mission in Billings,Montana. He served the Crow, Blackfeet, and Cheyenne people. This was a wonderful time of his life. His mission not only deepened his love for the gospel, but for his people.
After his mission, he worked full-time and enjoyed teasing his co-workers and telling them jokes. In 2009, he married the late Margaret Nield. Mathias loved his wife very much and he enjoyed spending time with her. Although he had faced many challenges when his wife was seriously ill, he stood by her side, and helped her along. His hobbies included bike riding, photography, reading comic books, listening to music, and collecting sci-fi memorabilia.
He is survived by his father Leo Begay, three sisters Nicole Deasy, Gloria Begay, Irene E. Begay, a brother, Samuel N. Begay, Uncles, Ambrose Smith, Jerry Begay, Aunts, Rose McGlynn, Betty Havatone, 5 Nieces, 3 Nephews, and 20 Cousins.
He has since reunited with his late wife, Margaret, Mother, Esther L. Begay, and other loved ones.
