James (Jim) Anthony Derr of Peoria, Arizona, formerly of Richmond, California, passed away peacefully on February 21 2022. Jim is predeceased by his parents Aubrey (Jim) Derr and Mary Derr Visentin; his cherished wife, Lydia R. Derr; siblings, Theresa Stautzenberger, Robert (Bobby) Visentin as well as his cherished son, Gary House and daughter in law Lois House.
Jim is survived by his loving sister Elizabeth (Liz) Harlow; Brother, William (Bill) Visentin, sister in law Bertha Visentin, brother in law, Dan (Lynn) Rodrigues and brother-in-law Gilbert Rodrigues; His cherished children; Michael House, Lewis (Celeste) Derr, Katy (Stuart) Blicharz-Gillespie, Marjorie (Jim) Musilli-Whitesell, Lori Harkin and daughter-in-law Debbie House; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews, his dear friend and former wife Dorothy Brittain, as well as his Arizona family and dear friends Kathy and Steve Rhone, Steve Harkin, John Wilson and Nancy McCalment.
Jim was born October 9, 1928 in Sacramento, CA and was a member of St. Joachim and Anne Roman Catholic Church in Youngtown, Arizona. Jim moved to Peoria, Arizona in 1986 after retiring as a Captain with the Berkeley Fire Department in Berkeley, California. Jim was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served proudly during the Korean War.
He worked in retirement for Judson School and The University of Phoenix. Jim loved to garden, swim, read and travel with his beloved Lydia.
A Funeral Service will be held at 8:00am on March 3 2022 at Advantage Golden Door Chapel, 11211 West Michigan Avenue, Youngtown, Arizona 85363 followed by a graveside service at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 10:00am, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024.
Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the church he loved, St. Joachim and Anne Roman Catholic Church, 11625 N. 111th Avenue, Sun City, AZ 85351.
The family would like to thank Lori Harkin, Dorothy Brittain, Faith Hospice and the Sun Valley Lodge in Sun City, AZ for their love and compassionate care over Jim the last three years.
