Herbert Gordon Stevens passed away peacefully at his care home in Phoenix, AZ on October 12, 2019. Herb was born February 6th, 1930, in Morris, Manitoba, Canada. As a young man, he became a champion 5-pin bowler and was a local celebrity often written about in the newspaper. He worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway for 25 years.
Herb emigrated to the United States during the 1970's and proudly became a naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1983. He then worked for the Arizona Republic Newspaper for many years until his retirement.
Herb had many varied interests and was well known among his friends for his love of travel, antique cars, golfing, astronomy, and the stock market. He loved to sing and still remembered the words to the old songs and hymns at the time of his death. He was a regular attender of Northwest Valley Baptist Church in Glendale, AZ, since 1995.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel. His survivors include his sister, Irene Stewin, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and 6 nieces and nephews - all of Canada.
A graveside service will be held at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Rd, Phoenix, on Friday, October 25th, at 2 pm with Dr. Kevin Schaal officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Northwest Valley Baptist Church, 4030 W. Yorkshire, Glendale, AZ 85308.
