On Sunday, February 26, 2023, Dixie Tipton Potter, Jr. (known to most as Tip or Master Potter) passed away at the age of 92. Tip was born April 22, 1930, in Pueblo Colorado to Dixie Tipton Potter, Sr and Frances Nelson Potter. After graduation, Tip enlisted, serving in the Army and Navy, during the Korean War. In 1949 Tip married Elizabeth Craw and had two children before they separated in 1953. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he settled in Tucson Arizona following his parents and landed a job with Ma Bell as a Lineman. In 1952, Tip attended the University of Arizona taking night classes while working full time. In 1957, Tip met and married the love of his life Gretta G Graham. In 1963, Tip and Gretta relocated with their children to Las Vegas, where Tip built a successful construction company. In 1968, Tip began his karate journey with the Chuck Norris school in Las Vegas and earned his Red Belt. In 1973, Tip moved his family to Pine Missouri to help his parents in their later years. While living in Missouri, Tip and Gretta opened their first Karate School in Doniphan Missouri in 1974, which was the beginning of a long and beautiful relationship for the love of Karate and teaching others the art of self-defense. In 1984, Tip and his family moved back to Arizona, residing in Phoenix, and opening another Karate school in 1985. Tip’s love of Karate earned him the title of Master, a 9th degree Black Belt, and the motivation to develop and teach the art of Belt Fighting. Besides his passion for Karate, Tip was an avid weightlifter, and loved building hot rods. Tip continued to work out every day into his 90’s. Tip is best described for his wit and charismatic personality, and his genuine desire to help others succeed.
Tip is preceded in death by his parents (Dixie) and (Frances), his sister (Madeline), and his wife (Gretta). He is survived by his wife of seven years Dorothy, his children Dixie Tipton (Laura) Krimont Ukiah, CA, Rebecca (Steven) Stern Auburn CA, Rhonda (Ken) Beckstead Sun City, AZ, Donald T (Debra) Potter Peoria AZ, LaDonna G (Pamela) Potter Chandler, AZ, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
