David was born on January 19, 1941 in Sanford, Maine, the eldest son of Roy Bard Estabrook and Evelyn Jessie (Harrison) Estabrook. He graduated from Sanford High School in 1959, then went on to the University of Maine and the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a master’s degree in Education.
It was in Sanford where David met and married Jean Louise (Wold) Estabrook. They shared over 50 years together, raising their family and experiencing life’s wonderful adventures.
David began as a high school history teacher in Lincoln, Maine, and went on to become Education Director at the Smithsonian Institution, later serving as director of the Chattanooga Regional History Museum. He also owned and operated 2 successful laundromats in Yuma, Arizona, where he eventually retired. David loved sports and education and was able to enjoy both as he refereed basketball and later, volleyball, for over sixty years.
David never met a stranger and always made a point to talk to every person he met. He found great joy in meeting new people and making them smile. He was an avid baseball fan and history buff. Family, faith and country were most important to him.
David is survived by his children, Bard Estabrook, David Estabrook, Jr., Shauna Lete, and Diana Warner; grandchildren Stephanie Ortega, Cody Warner, and Jessie Warner; brother Roy Estabrook and sister Brenda Bragg.
