Mary Lucio Preston, born to Celia Martinez Lucio and Canuto Lucio in San Antonio, Texas, passed away on January 25, 2023 in Yorba Linda, CA at the age of 87. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and recently a great grandmother. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Owen Preston, daughter Mary Margaret, her mother and father, and brothers Raymond, Pete and Joe.
Mary is survived by 6 children: Jerome, Frances, Rose Ann, Michael, Thomas and Timothy. Additionally survived by her sisters: Alice, Gloria, Rose, Rebecca, Martha and Margie, and brothers Richard and Danny. Mary's grandchildren are Kirsten, Carli, Katie, Madeline, Lauren, Timothy, Luke, Lois and Martin. Great grandsons: Blue and Noah.
Mary was a stay-at-home mother until her youngest son entered school. She volunteered many hours at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Placentia. Among her varied undertakings, she sewed alter banners and the priest’s stoles and helped with the school’s hot lunch program. In the 80s, Mary and Tom acquired their dream avocado ranch property in De Luz and built a beautiful home which they named "Rancho Buena Vista" for its majestic views of mountains, avocado orchards, and the ocean. Mary worked for Kaiser for over 20 years, commuting to Anaheim until retirement. She enjoyed fishing off the coast of Mexico with her family. Mary was an avid golfer and regularly played with Tom and her friends. Mary also enjoyed live music and traveling. She attended many Notre Dame football games with her family. Mary loved planting petunias in the Spring and shaping her front hedges into topiaries. Mary was an amazing cook and everyone enjoyed her delicious meals that she lovingly prepared.
Her family will miss her dearly. She adored her grandchildren who felt loved and cherished in her presence. Her children will miss her warmth, wisdom, advice and her uncanny way of knowing what everyone needed. She always had time to listen, was patient, and selfless. Her loss is greatly felt.
Services for Mary will be held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Placentia on February 24 at 10:30 AM.
