Wanda M. Murphy (nee Zak), a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Friday October 1, 2010 at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. She was 83 years old. She was born on June 24, 1927 to Walter and Stephanie Dutkowsky Zak in Romania. After coming to the United States with her parents, she attended local Yonkers schools graduating from Gorton High School. She was a longtime parishioner of Christ the King Church. She loved the ballet, theater and her beloved “Kitty Cats”. “Her family meant everything to her” said her daughter Barbara. On July 4, 1953, she married her loving husband, Raymond P. Murphy in Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Murphy died on June 15, 2009. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Murphy of Yonkers, Linda Murphy of Plattsburg, N.Y. and Karen Murphy of Somers, Ct. and one son, Raymond P. Murphy, Jr. “Duke” and his wife Margaret of Yonkers. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Gene Ryan Murphy and his wife, Grace, Wayne, Brandon & Brittany Fornabaio, Kelly & Casey Bordeaux and Raymond P. Murphy III. Visitation will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 2-4 & 6-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church on Monday October 4th at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 785 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, N.Y. 10606-2523.
