Sr. Mary Sygne Dyda

Sr. Mary Sygne Dyda, 68 years old died December 20, 2016 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was born on October 21, 1948 to Leo and Thelma Dyda in Patuxent River, Maryland. Her father was a Naval Officer where they resided in Morocco, Africa, Bermuda, Norfolk, VA, Memphis, TN and Jacksonville, FL before joining the Sacramentine Nuns on January 9, 1972. She received the habit on February 2, 1972 and made her first vows on February 2, 1974 and Solemn Profession February 5, 1977. Besides her religious sisters she leaves behind her sisters Nancy (Alden) Corley, Pam (Jerry) DeNault and a brother Kevin (Deborah) Dyda. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and two great nephews. She was involved in the alter department. Was Novice Directress from 1998 to 2010. She was elected Sub-Prioress in 2010. Sister was Secretary to MACC for several years. Visiting hours will be in the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday, December 22nd from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday December 23rd at Sacred Heart Church on Shonnard Place in Yonkers at 11am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sacramentine Nuns 86 Dromore Rd. Scarsdale, NY 10583.
