While born in Warsaw, NC, Red spent the majority of his life in New York, where he was a construction worker for over 50 years with multiple organizations. Outside of work, Red could be found at home watching his favorite Westerns stories, and his sports teams Yankees, Mets, Giants, and sometimes, the Jets. He also enjoyed a good hand of cards and a few rowdy hands of Dominoes. Red dedicated his life to his family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh with anyone looking a little down. He enjoyed a fulfilling career and an even fuller life, allowing him to share his love with everyone he held dear.
He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years Phyllis Hodges, and his children Kisha Dilts (Raymond), Maria Smith (Mackenzie), and Rufus Hodges (Christina). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Tyra Dilts, Shawn Rivera, and great-grandchildren Zahriah Rivera, Ava Rivera, and Xavier Rivera. He will be missed by his sisters Irene Pickney, Judy Allen, Sendell Wilson, and Margie Hampton (Joseph). Finally, Red leaves behind a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Red was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary “Susie” Williams, and his brother James “Peter” Williams.
Per Red’s wishes, an internment of his ashes and a memorial service will be held in North Carolina at a later date. All are welcome to attend.
