Ruby attended NYC schools and earned her Master’s degree in Special Education.
Ruby worked for the NYC Board of Education as a Teacher and also provided home instruction for her students. After Ruby retired from the BOE, she turned her attention to real estate and became a licensed Real Estate agent. Her passion for selling real estate afforded her the opportunity to meet countless people, many of whom became lifelong friends of Ruby.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband Shaw Dixon (1984) and her parents (William “Brooksie” and Petrona Shaw). Ruby and Shaw Dixon are survived by their daughter (Joan Smith) of Yonkers, several grandchildren: Robert (Ulster County), Kellie, Clifford jr (Yonkers) and Cherie (Anwar) of Yorktown. Great grandchildren: Kerri, Danielle (Ulster County), JaLyssa, JaLyah (Yonkers), Christopher (Georgia), and Ari (Yorktown). Great Great grandchildren: Haji (Yonkers), Gabby and Jaeden (Woodstock, N.Y.).
Ruby, who was called “Bisa” and “Rubina” by her family, will be deeply missed, not only for the Amazing woman that she was, but for her fighting spirit, extreme wit, love for books/reading, and animals (dogs especially). All of the wisdom that “Bisa” has shared with her family over the years will be cherished and never forgotten now that she is an Angel in God’s kingdom.
The family has chosen a private service, however, we truly appreciate all the Prayers and offers of condolences.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.whalenandballfh.com for the Dixon family.
