Rita was born on January 17th, 1943 in Yonkers, NY to Daniel and Kathryn (Connery) Mullin. She grew up surrounded by the love of her family on Jones Place in Yonkers, NY. She received her elementary education at Holy Rosary School and St. Joseph’s School and later graduated from Gorton High School (Yonkers, NY) in 1960.
She began to work at Gestener in Yonkers NY, as an office worker before venturing into her 30+ years in the Nursing Field.
She received her LPN License from Grasslands Valhalla NY. And continued her Nursing studies at Pace University for both her Bachelors and Masters in Nursing degrees.
She began her Professional
Nursing career at Mt. Sinai in NYC, after that she began to work in White Plains Hospital as a Unit Manager. Rita later moved onto Community General in Harris NY, as the Associate Director and Director of Nursing.
Nursing was her life and a career she cherished and shared with many that crossed in her path.
Rita enjoyed spending time with her very extensive family and looked forward to her trips with her sisters on their “sisters’ weekends” and family beach trips to Rehoboth, DE and the Outer Banks, NC.
She is survived by her siblings Kathryne McDonald of Suffern, NY, Patricia (David) Begin of Hoosick Falls, NY, Thomas (Frida) Mullin of West Palm Beach, Fl, Jacquelin Fleming of Mrytle Beach, SC,Judith Gatley of Columbus, OH, Daniel (Dorothy) Mullin of Beaufort, SC, Geralyn Mullin of Bluffton, SC, and Kerry Anne (Terry) Ciccaglione of Cold Spring, NY, and Joanna Longo her life long friend. She was well loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rita was preceded in death by her beloved parents Daniel and Kathryn Mullin, her sister Mary Jo (Doey) Fee and her brothers in law, William McDonald, Jack Fee, Martin Fleming and Alan Gatley and her sister in law Annette Mullin.
The family will be greeting friends and relatives at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday May 19th from 3-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday May 20th. 2022 at 10am at St. Joseph’s Church Yonkers NY.
Private Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, but at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital., Shriners Hospital for Children, or the Ronald McDonald House.
