Patrick J. O’Leary 89, of Florida - passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 17, 2022. He was born on September 25th, 1933 in the Bronx to Irish immigrants Patrick and Nora (Kelleher) O’Leary.
Patrick attended Cardinal Hayes High School, Fordham University, and New York University Graduate School. He was a proud veteran and served in the United States Army as a Lieutenant from 1955 to 1957 while deployed in Korea. In 1958 he married Barbara Foscante. They moved from the Grand Concourse in the Bronx, to Yonkers and had four sons, Patrick (Alana), Edward (Laura), Stephen (Alison) and Daniel (Chrisie).
Pat was ordained a Permanent Deacon in St. Patrick’s Cathedral May 1978 and served at Saint Anthony’s Parish in Yonkers New York for many years. His beloved wife Barbara passed away in May 1983 after almost 25 years of marriage. In October 1993 he married Joan V. Horton, and gained three daughters: Janice (Jack), Sharon (Phil) and Mariann.
He had a long and successful career in the advertising and finance fields, and his last position before retiring was with the Westchester County Financial group. He was a proud Irishman, and a member of the County Corkmen Association for 70 years. He passed on many traditions, one of which is marching in the St. Patrick’s Day parade each year behind the Cork Banner. Two generations continue that practice each Saint Patrick’s Day, often reporting who was there, and what time they “stepped out” back to Dad/Grandpa in Florida.
Throughout his life, he took great pride in his large family, his heritage, his friends, his affiliation with both Cardinal Hayes High School and Fordham University. On occasion, he also took pride in being a fan of the New York Giants.
His, was a life service - to his country, his community, his Church, and always his family. Pat participated in many boards and organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, the Colts Boys club, his Florida homeowners association on Bouchelle Island, as well as running the CCD program at Saint Anthony’s Parish for more than a decade.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 25 years, Joan, his little sister Betty (John) Stahl, his four sons, three daughters, 16 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren as well as loving nieces Eileen (Christopher), Noreen (Jim), Angela, Kathy, Christine and nephew John. He will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Anthony’s Church Yonkers New York, on Saturday, March 25th at 10:30 AM.
