Marlene M. Verno (nee Paulsen), a lifelong resident of Yonkers, NY, died on January 10, 2018, at age 85. She was born on March 2, 1932, graduated from Hastings High School in 1950 and married John W. Verno "Pop", Dec. 4, 1954, with whom she shared 46 years . Mel, as she was known to her friends, wore many hats. She was the gym teacher, nurse's assistant and secretary at the rectory for St. Bartholomew's Parish until she became employed at Columbia University as a medical secretary. Additionally, she was a member of St. Bartholomew's Rosary Altar Society and Sacred Heart Nocturnal. Marlene is survived by her two daughters, Mary (Charles) Benjamin and Marlene Whelahan and is the loving Nanny of the four lights of her life, her granddaughters, Lauren, Kristen, Emily, Elizabeth and her granddog, Nickson. Marlene was predeceased by her brothers John and Charles and her two sisters, Helen Jackson and Charlotte Moen. She was deeply loved by all of her nieces and nephews. She is finally at peace and reunited with Poppy.
Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Bartholomew’s Church on Saturday January 13th at 10am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
