Maria Lucia Simoes

Maria Lucia Simoes, of Yonkers, New York passed away on Thursday, July 14,2022 at the age of 86.Maria Lucia was predeceased by her husband, Manuel Simoes. She is survived by her beloved only Child, Ana Melo and her spouse, Tony Melo; granddaughter Ashley Borrero, and her spouse, Sam Borrero Jr.; granddaughter Christina Morbelli, and her spouse, Chris Morbelli. Maria Lucia was an amazing Vo Vo to her four great-grandchildren Cameron Borrero, and Michael, Jack and Catie Morbelli.

Maria Lucia was born in Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1973. She loved spending time in Portugal and in the United States. She was beloved by family and friends on both sides of the ocean. She had a heart of gold and always did her very best to care for everyone around her. She was an excellent cook, and no one could escape her with an empty stomach. Her fried eggs, meat patties, rice pudding and filhos will never be replicated. She was a laundress with magical abilities, always defeating any stain her grandchildren and great-grandchildren presented her with.She loved to sing and dance, and had the voice of an angel. The strength of her faith could be felt by those around her. She was always ready with a blessing or prayer, and we will never say grace without thinking of her.

Maria Lucia died peacefully surrounded by her family. She firmly believed that her deceased loved ones would be waiting for her in heaven, and we send her to them in a fancy dress, with her hair, makeup and nails done. A truly beautiful woman, inside and out, they broke the mould when they made her. Maria Lucia was dearly loved and will be missed fiercely by her family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Monday July 18th from 4PM to 8PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, July 19th at 10AM.
