Julia Daniels was born Julia Berezny in Yonkers, NY, to Stephen & Julia (Slutak) Berezny on September 11,1920 and left this life on April 16, 2016. A Yonkers resident for most of her 95 years, she was the youngest of four children and was predeceased by her brothers Stephen and Michael and her beloved sister, Helen Misley. Julia and her siblings were very proud to be the first generation of their family born in the United States.
Julia is survived by her two married children, Joseph S. Daniels (Sally) of Texas and Julie A. Daniels (Richard Schasberger) of Connecticut, one grandchild Michael Daniels (Marie), and two great-grandaughters Mary and Mia Daniels. She was heartbroken over the loss of her youngest grandson, Brian Daniels in 2006. Julia is also survived by one nephew (Steve Berezny), two nieces (Joan Morse and Carol Habza), and her dear cousin Anne Lovas.
After graduating from Commerce High School in 1938, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Yonkers law firm of Scrugam & Arbuckle. On November 27, 1943 she married her Navy sweetheart, Joseph Daniels, also a Yonkers native. They lived for a little over a year in Absecon, NJ, until Joe was shipped out to the South Pacific in early 1945. At the end of World War II, she joined Joe in California with their young son Joey. In 1948, the Daniels’ returned to Yonkers to raise their family. After settling into a new life together, they finally got their wish and had the daughter they wanted so badly, Julie Ann. The family enjoyed summer vacations and weekends on their boat, The 4 Jays, cruising the Hudson River and Long Island Sound. After the kids went off on their own, Julia and Joe spent many happy vacations relaxing at the Jersey Shore and taking Cruises. In 1994 Julia lost Joe, the love of her life, just three days before their 51st Wedding Anniversary.
Julia worked in Egerman’s Pharmacy in Yonkers for close to 25 years. People would always stop in to get her advice on cosmetics and fragrances. Everyone in the neighborhood knew and liked Julia, and continued to ask for her after her retirement.
Julia spent her last years in New Rochelle, NY, where she could see the Long Island Sound waters the family used to boat on during the summer. No matter where she lived during her long life, people always got to know “Julia” and enjoy her warmth and wit.
