He was born on November 7, 1928 to Onufry and Melania Kowalczyk in the village of Stawisza in the Lemko region of southeastern Poland. He was married to his beloved wife, Olga, for 71 years. They went everywhere together; their final journey was made together. They came to America in 1962 and with hard work built a life for their family. His love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was beyond question. He is survived by his two daughters, Anna Wheeler (Bruce) and Melania Hrabovsky (Oleh). He is with the love of his life, Olga, his sons John (1993) and Walter (1958). His grandchildren described him as the best ‘Didi’ ever! He was the ultimate purveyor of positivity, loved to dance, never said no to a bowl of ice cream. He loved to putter in his tool shed, work on projects in his garage but would put everything aside if someone needed him. His greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren. He will be missed. His grandchildren are: Nicholas, Michael, Jennifer, Brian, Ashley (Tyler) and Dimitri. His great grandchildren are Nickayla and Liam Joseph. He is predeceased by his father Onufry (1962), mother Melania (1935), sister Olga(1999), brother Jaroslaw (2007), sister-in-law Zofia (2001). He has two surviving sisters-in-law, Maria and Melanie; brother-in-law, Andy (Mary) and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday July 9, 2021 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm.
