He was born on December 8, 1967 to Jeremiah and Winifred Kiernan Breen in the Bronx where he was raised and educated, graduating from St Philip Neri Grade School and Cardinal Hayes High School. He attended John Jay College in New York City. Mr. Breen was a senior investigator for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for the past two years. Previously, he was a Detective 1st Grade with the New York City Police Department for twenty years retiring in December 2010 and was a member of the New York City PBA. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church in Yonkers and ran the sports program at St. Anthony’s as their sports director. He also coached for the Colts Boys Club. Mr. Breen was also a 911 first responder and spent many months down at Ground Zero. On June 16, 1995, he married his loving wife, Jennifer Thomas at Sacred Heart Church. Mrs. Breen survives and lives in Yonkers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kyle Breen of Yonkers, a daughter, Julia Breen of Yonkers, his parents, Jeremiah and Winifred Breen of the Bronx, and a sister, Margaret Flynn and her husband, Seamus of Yonkers. He is also survived by his in laws, Larry and Peggy Thomas, and several nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Ciara and Kayley Flynn, Ronan, Conall and Dermot Lowry and Maddy, Caitlin and Anna Thomas. He was predeceased by his mother in law, Ann Thomas. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church, Bronx on Saturday October 6th at 10:45am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to either the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
