Irma C. Brown was born Irma Clarice Thomas on April 20, 1923 in Baltimore, MD to the late Edna and Leonard Marshall Thomas, Sr. She was educated in the Baltimore City School system and worked as an elevator operator and nurse’s aide. In 1950, Irma married Herbert Joseph Brown and from that union came a daughter, Margaret Victoria Brown. With her husband and daughter, she moved to Yonkers, N.Y. in 1953. She lived there until 2006 before moving to Douglasville, GA. Irma was very active in her church and gave to several catholic charities. She enjoyed seeing Broadway shows with her daughter, going out to eat and spending time with all of her family. Irma was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Joseph Brown; her daughter, Margaret Victoria Hollins; one sister, Evelyn Soretta Ford; three brothers, Leonard Marshall Thomas, Jr., Howard Douglas Thomas, and Charles Randolph Thomas. She leaves behind one sister, Blanche Serena Conway of Baltimore, MD; one son-in-law, Harold Hollins of Pennsylvania; one sister-in-law, Esther Thomas of Baltimore, MD; two brothers in-law, George Brown (Deloris) of Baltimore, MD and Robert Moore (Valerie) of Louisiana. Irma also leaves behind four grandchildren, L. Denise Gittens (Marvin) of Douglasville, GA, Tereska Nateal Hollins, of Pennsylvania, Harold Theodore Hollins, and Juanita Diane Ward (Mark) all of North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; devoted niece, Evelyn Soretta Williams; a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many other loving relatives and friends. Irma C. Brown was a very loving person who will always live in our hearts and will surely be missed. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church on Wednesday September 11th at 10 am. Interment will follow at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale.
