George F. Downing Sr. was born November 21,1931 in Yonkers N.Y. and passed away from natural causes on May 25,2020 In Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
He was the son of the late Claude and Nora (nee Daly)Downing.
Mr Downing was predeceased by his brother Dennis and his sister Eileen Foley. He is survived by his sons Claude(YFD retired) and his wife Barbara, George Jr., granddaughter Erin, his sister Claudia Collins , former spouse Isabella M. Downing and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was a graduate of Saunders Trade and Technical H.S. in Yonkers. He enlisted in the Navy in December 1951 and served as a Seabee until his discharge in March 1954.
He worked for New York Telephone and Verizon for 40 years.
George enjoyed fishing and U.S. history. He was a lifelong New York Giants football fan.
A private service and burial will be held because of the coronavirus pandemic.
