She was born August 13, 1928 in the Highbridge section of Bronx, NY. She was the daughter of John Thumm and Elinor (Falvey) Thumm.
Eleanor was also a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church in Hastings on Hudson, NY where she served as the President of the Altar Society, and an active member of the Legion of Mary and the Padre Pio Society. She also volunteered with the Midnight Run to feed the homeless.
Eleanor was educated at Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, NY, and thereafter attended training as a dental assistant, working for several Dentists in Yonkers. She was also co-owner of the family businesses, Smiling Sunny’s Toy Center in Staten Island, NY and The Toy House in Hartsdale NY, where she also worked until her retirement.
She was married to the love of her life, James J. Dalton, celebrating 65 years of marriage prior to his death in 2019.
She is survived by her daughters, Eleanor Marie (Nini) Dalton, and Mary Dalton of Hastings on Hudson, NY; Theresa Dalton and son in law, Michael Conway of Prospect, CT; and her grandchildren Michael Conway of the Bronx, NY and Emma T. Conway of Brooklyn, NY and her daughter in law, Barbara Dalton of Pawleys Island, SC and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband James, she was predeceased by her son, Thomas V. Dalton of Pawleys Island, SC, and her siblings Raymond Thumm, Helen McAvoy, Ethel Menditto, John (Jack) Thumm and Mary English.
Eleanor leaves her family and friends with a lifetime of loving memories.
Visiting hours will be at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Matthew’s Church in Hastings on Hudson, NY on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 10:30am with Internment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla,
