He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Sana, their children and their spouses, grandchildren, siblings, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply. He is preceded in death by his son Michael.
Dr. Sayegh was born in Jordan and emigrated to the United States in 1957, seeking to build a better future for himself and his family. His journey was one of determination and hard work. A distinguished and respected physician, Dr. Sayegh’s contributions to the medical field spanned over 45 years, leaving an indelible mark on both his profession and the lives of those he cared for. For 23 years, he served as Director of Surgery/Chief of Urology at St. Joseph's Medical Center, where his leadership, expertise, and compassionate care were widely recognized. He also held the role of Chief of Urology at Yonkers General Hospital, an attending Urologist at St. John's Riverside Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Urology at NY Medical College. His unwavering dedication to his patients and his work was evident throughout his long and successful career.
Beyond his exceptional career in medicine, Dr. Sayegh had a profound passion for history and world travel. He was an avid student of history, always seeking to learn more about the cultures and events that shaped the world. This love of learning took him on many journeys across the globe, where he gained new perspectives and shared unforgettable experiences with his family. His stories from these travels, and his insights into history, often inspired those around him, especially his children and grandchildren.
Dr. Sayegh was also a passionate teacher, dedicating much of his time to mentoring young medical professionals. He took great pride in passing on his knowledge, skills, and the values of kindness, empathy, and integrity to the next generation of doctors. His impact as an educator will live on through the many lives he touched.
He was known not only for his skill as a surgeon and physician but also for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support of his colleagues, patients, and family. A man of great faith and a pillar of his community, his legacy is one of selflessness, excellence, and a lifelong commitment to both healing and learning.
The viewing will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, located at 236 Grand View Blvd. The funeral service will take place on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Virgin Mary Church, followed by interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery, located at Hastings on Hudson. A mercy meal will be held at the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church immediately following the burial.
Dr. Sayegh’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who have supported them during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the impact he made on the lives of those he touched.
