Donald R. Lee Sr.

Donald R. Lee, Sr., age 88, peacefully passed away on December 5, 2015 in Somers Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Somers, New York. He was born in White Plains, New York to the late Thomas and Margaret Lee. Donald is survived by five children – Donna, grandchildren Tyrone, Jr. (Popi), Chermayne (Norman Bates) and great-grandchildren Kane, Sade’ and Nyashia; Donald II, daughter-in-law Muriel and grand-children Donald III, Dayanna and Davone (Valentino); Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Linda and grandchild Jeffrey, Jr. and great-grandchild Camryn ; Douglas, grandchildren Michelle and great-grandchild Brittany, Douglas, Jr. (DJ) and great-grandchild Jacob, Sergio and great-grandchild Sergio, Jr., and Julian (Napoleon) and great-grandchild Aleinia; Sheen and grandchild Conrad V (Boo); and his brother Arthur Lee Southall, Jr. and sister-in-law Joyce A. Southall. Donald will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law and friend.

In his early years, he worked as a caddie, and was a pitcher for the Battle Hill baseball team. He joined the Army-Airforce during World War II where he was a supplier and was awarded an Honorable Discharge in 1949. He also worked in a morgue and was a dog catcher. Most of his working life he was a presser in the dry cleaning business. He is known in the family as having beautiful penmanship.

He had further schooling at the American Gentlemen Cutting and Designing School for Mens and Ladies Pattern Making and Grading in 1949 and Saunders Trades and Technical High School in the Manpower Training Program for Machine Tool Operating in 1963. He attended Lehman College for Gerontology Studies.

He was a great storyteller and had a phenomenal sense of humor.

Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Final viewing will take place on Friday Dec. 11th at 10am and a funeral service will be held at the Ferncliff Crematory Chapel in Hartsdale at 11am.
