Del Caraballo

Del Caraballo was born on May 8, 1974 in Manhattan, NY. Del was the youngest son of Rosie (nee Cruz) and Delfin Caraballo. Del and his older brother Frank Caraballo grew up in the Bronx; attending Visitation grammar school and later attended Mount Saint Michael High School, where Del excelled both as a student and basketball player. Del went on to earn a degree in Criminal Justice from Iona College. After graduation Del went on to pursue a career in law enforcement and joined the New York City Police Department in 1997 and went on to serve in the NYPD for 10 years. He eventually went on to transfer into the Yonkers Police Department where he joined his brother in law Mike Lorenzo and his father in law retired police detective Michael Lorenzo. He faithfully served the Yonkers community for the next 16 years. Most recently Del was promoted to detective and assigned to the DEA task force.

Del and his wife Maureen met as students at Iona College. One night at a house party, Del and Maureen were both independently in search of a TV to check the NY Knicks game results, they both found the TV and the rest is history. Love of New York sport teams continued to be a pivotal part of their relationship in the years to follow. Del and Maureen went on to marry and had three beautiful children, Tyler Del (b.1996), Justin Michael (b. 2000) and Chloe Elizabeth ( b. 2003) Del considered his family life with his wife and 3 children his greatest accomplishment and brought him his highest joy. One way Del showed his faithfulness as a dad was by coaching all 3 of his children (as well as 100s of others) in school sports for over 15 years. Del still continued to attend many Hastings school sporting events after his kids graduated and will forever be a Yellow Jacket Supporter.

Del’s love of sports was legendary and was part of his life from childhood. In recent years he had taken up golf and greatly enjoyed hitting the links with his fellow officers. Sunday morning “ over 40” basketball games with other “Hasting Dads” were times he cherished greatly and would come home weekly with lots of funny stories for Maureen.

Del had a unique gift of connecting with people from all walks of life regardless of age. His whole family including his mom Rosie, his brother Frank, his mother in law Joan, his sisters in law, brothers in law , his 6 nieces and 6 nephews as well as his beloved 5 grand nieces and 1 grand nephew have endless happy memories with Uncle Del - supporting, loving and inspiring them with his kindness and attentiveness to everyone’s needs and details. He was the first guy to lend a helping hand, open his home , grab you a coffee, run an errand, set up your beach chair, fix your car or dishwasher ( with the guidance of You Tube), rock a baby, rescue a dog , give you a ride or a million other acts of kindness. It is an understatement to say how deeply Del will be missed by all who had the privilege to play, work and live life with him.

Del is survived by his wife Maureen and 3 children, Tyler, Justin and Chloe. His mother Rosie, brother Frank and his wife Maria and 2 children Alex and Sofia; his mother in law Joan Lorenzo sister and brother in law Liz and Bobby Hargraves , their children and grandchildren, Adam and Ashley Podpora with Reese , Lydia and Piper, Christina and Cameron Fortuna with Novalee and Noah, and his favorite niece Grace Hargraves. His brother and sister in law Mike and Ana Lorenzo, their children Connie and Max Goldberg, Vanessa and Yarnel Valle and baby Maisie, and son Michael . He is predeceased by his father and father in law.

Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday 2-8pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Calvary Chapel of Grace & Truth, 1373 Nepperhan Ave., Yonkers on Thursday February 23rd at 11am. Cremation will follow at Ferncliff Crematory in Hartsdale.
