Charles Anthony McNelis, age 86 of Bridgeville, DE, formerly of Yonkers, NY, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at his home. He was born on December 26, 1931 in Meenavalley, Ardara, County Donegal, Ireland, son of the late Patrick J. and Annie Alice (Keeney) McNelis. Mr. McNelis emigrated to Bronx, NY in 1953, after having worked in Corby, England in the steel mills. He became a proud US citizen in 1958. On June 18, 1960 he married the love of his life, his devoted wife, Hazel (Harrington), in Holy Spirit Church, Bronx, NY. Mr. McNelis dedicated forty years to Consolidated Edison, retiring in 1994 as a customer service manager. He was an avid follower and fan of all sports, both American and International. Above all, he was a most kind, generous, and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Mr. McNelis was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife, Hazel McNelis of Bridgeville, DE; his sons: Patrick J. McNelis (Laura), John C. McNelis (Barbara Keppler), and Charles A. McNelis (Eileen Dunn); his daughter, Elizabeth Lally (John); his grandchildren: Marykate, Conall, Aileen, Ciaran, Seán, Peter, John, Daniel, and Thomas McNelis, and Margaret and Catherine Lally; his brothers: Bernard, Frank, Peter, and Matthew; and his sisters: Mara Rooney and Celine Breslin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 08, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 532 Stein Highway, Seaford, DE, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, Bridgeville, DE. A second Visitation will also be held at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Avenue, Yonkers, New York on Friday February 9, 2018 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday February 10, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, where a procession will depart for the cemetery committal at Gate of Heaven, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY.
