Barbara Louise White, aged 89, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at St. John's Hospital, the very institution where she dedicated over 45 years of her life as a devoted Medical and Surgical Technician.
Born on December 14, 1934, in Yonkers, she was the beloved daughter of James and Myra White.
Barbara began her professional journey as a seamstress before transitioning to a career dedicated to caring for those in need. Her work at the hospital was not just a job but a calling. Her expertise and dedication touched countless lives, significantly impacting both her colleagues and patients. Known for her meticulous attention to detail and her caring nature, Barbara was a pillar of the hospital community, embodying the spirit of selfless service.
In addition to her medical career, Barbara had a deep passion for working with children. She earned an associate degree in early childhood education from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry NY. In her free time, she volunteered at the Yonkers Public Library, helping children learn to read and assisting them with their homework.
Barbara was a woman of great wisdom and kindness who enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and imparting lessons of resilience and love. Her light will shine on through her loving son William White Sr.; daughter-in-law Eve Gonzalez White; and her cherished grandchildren Keisha Sutton and William White Jr. She is also survived by her siblings Renee Brown, Jay Neil Brown, Richie Brown and Ulysses Brown. She was predeceased by her siblings James White, Beatrice White, and Cleveland Brown. Barbara also leaves a host of nieces and nephews who shared a lifelong bond of love and support.
Barbara's journey was marked by unwavering commitment, love, and compassion for her friends and family. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital so that her love for children can continue to impact future generations.
Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Friday 2-6pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday June 29th at 12pm. Cremation will follow at Ferncliff Crematory.
