Anna Skislak (Mynio), a longtime Yonkers resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27th, 2017 in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. She was born December 1935, in Polane Syroviczne, (Lemko Region) Poland to Jan and Teresa Mynio. During World War II, her father, Jan Mynio, was taken from them by the occupying army to Auschwicz where he was never heard from again. In 1947, the family was forced to relocate to Miastko in Western Poland during Operation Vistula (Aktsia Visla). She was married to Myhajlo Skislak in 1958. He tragically died in 1979. Anna then relocated to Yonkers, NY, in 1983 to be closer to her daughter, Teresa, who previously emigrated to USA, and shortly after joined by Olga. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Society. She is predeceased by two brothers, Stefan and Myhajlo, of Miastko, Poland, survived by her brother, Seman, also of Miastko, Poland, sister Mary (Walter) Zielonka, of Elmwood Park, NJ, daughters Teresa (Steve) Kapitula and Olga (Stanley) Melnychuk, grandchildren Michael, Andrew, Oksana and Matthew, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close family in Canada, Australia, Poland and Ukraine. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday, January 29th between 4-8pm with Pannakhyda Service at 7pm. The Funeral Service will be held in St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church on Monday, January 30th at 10am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church – Elevator Fund.
