You left so suddenly.

This cold silence is killing me.
Like a thousand knives in my chest.
I imagine you everywhere.
That’s how I’ll remember you best.
How can I continue this normalcy?
Without you by my side.
All i can do is wait.
Until time passes us by.

Should I take a sip of this water? How could I let the element that killed my brother sustain me? Andrew Habibi, why would the universe deceive me like this? Where is God’s grace they speak of? What happened to the cute kids in the Our Lady of Fatima story? Was it all a beautiful fantasy? I don't know what to believe in anymore. I miss you so much. I am looking to the sky for answers, hoping the bird that lands on the electric line is you. I wander the park at night hoping the eerie fog will form your figure as though Hollywood cinema is true. The saturation of the world has become dull. Rainbows look monochromatic. Flowers reek of khara. The rooms I've housed in this head of mine are underwater. Please open a window. My baby brother is gone! If a window won’t open, I want the world to drown with me. Time keeps pressing on my throat begging me to move on. I don't want days to pass. I can sense my body wanting to heal. But I don't want to heal. I want the wounds to stay open so I can mourn you forever. I don't want to smile or laugh ever again. How dare I rejoice without you? My heart needs an oil change, but I don't want them to change the oil. Let the black burn blacker until the exhaust suffocates itself. What kind of twisted game is this?  Worms lying on the ground after a rainstorm have more of an understanding of their existence than I do right now.  I can really use something to believe in but I can not trust false hope, the land of imagination or naivete. Will the rest of my life be waiting for the next loss? Did I bring this upon myself? Does this sly universe take enjoyment in ripping you of the thing you cherish the most? I am confused with so many questions but I know there is no answer.  Nothing matters anymore. You left me here. You left me in a world just as confused as I am. If you can’t live in my world, can you at least live in my heart?

Andrew was one of my nearest and dearest friends. I went out with him nearly every weekend, typically Friday and Saturdays, for the past few years. We met when we were only freshman and have been inseparable since. He was the person I would go to for advice and to vent and he always supported me with his kind words and gestures. I would call him for the smallest of things like to see if he liked my outfit or to tell him a story I think he would find funny. On the weekends, the first thing people say to me is “Where is Andrew?” because they know he was always close by and we rarely went out without asking if we wanted to join each other. I will miss his “Yurrs” when i answered the phone and our long car rides talking about nothing. I want thank his family for raising the best person I know and for making him the most respectful and kindest person in the world. Andrew would do anything for me and I can proudly say, I would do the same. My life changed forever the day I met him and I will forever cherish our memories. 

After everything we’ve been through, the good and the bad, Andrew always wanted to make things right and make positive memories with our family. I am forever grateful for the love he had for my family and I. His beautiful smile, always lit up the room, his hilarious laughter, made everyone feel better with his company. Andrew was so hardworking, caring and selfless, wanting to put others first before him. I reminded him if there’s anything he wanted to talk about, or a shoulder to cry on, that he could reach out to me anytime; I would be there to listen. When he confessed to me of the love he had for my sister, Denisse, I believed him. And I wanted him to know, to keep that love and stay positive, and express it, for he was best friends with my sister and I am forever grateful for his love and care for Denisse. Andrew was like a brother to me, we always said “bro” and “sis” to one another when we talked. I was so touched with the bond Andrew grew with my brothers, Daniel and Dylan. Bringing pizza for our family and playing video games and watching movies together. His surprise visits always made our day! I was so proud on how far he had come to reach his new accomplishment of a broker on Wall Street. I knew he was going to do big things and I told him to always keep pushing for his goals because he had so much resilience, courage and determination. He inspired me. I will miss Andrew’s sweet and unique voice. He always made me laugh when he called me by my middle name, “Mayliiiiine”, and then I would say back to him, “Daviiiiid.” Always laughter we shared. Andrew David Akroush, my brother, you will live forever in my heart. I am so grateful and lucky to have you in my life as my third brother. I love you Daviiiid. To Mr. and Mrs. Akroush, Samer and Rena, my family and I love you. Andrew impacted our lives in such a positive way, we will always be here for you and see you as family, just like we always did with your beautiful son, Andrew.

I have known Andrew for what feels like a long time. We dated back in high school and made so many memories that I’ll keep close to my heart. We were together for two years but when I enlisted in the US Navy, things didn’t work out. However, we stayed friends since then. He was the sweetest person with such a big heart. We would talk about our dreams and future goals. He was very motivated and driven. When he wanted something, he would go get it. I will never forget his kind soul. He did so much for me and my whole family. We all love Andrew and will miss him very much. To his family, I’m sending my deepest condolences. Andrew was such a beautiful and kind person. 

Andrew was a wonderful, funny, and well-mannered young man. He was loved and well known at School 17. He was there for a short time. I was looking forward to having him in my class, but he moved to St. Ann School. From time to time, I would see Andrew walking up Midland Ave. He would have his headphones on, but he would take it off to talk to me. His mom, Mrs. Akroush and I would talk whenever we meet. Our main topic would be about Andrew and the young man he's becoming. We would laugh and end or conversation "That's our Andrew."
 Mr. and Mrs. Akroush, please accept my deepest condolences. There are no words to heal your pain. Hold on to Andrew's memories. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

My heart is heavy and I send my sincere condolence to the family. I had the distinct pleasure of watching Andrew grow  throughout the time he spent with me at School 17.  After he left us he still came back to visit. He never forgot us and we will NEVER forget him. Words will never be sufficient  to express heartfelt sorry.
