Cumberland - Robert “Bob” C. Macpherson, 90, of Cumberland died peacefully on October 12, 2013. He was born in White Plains, NY on September 3, 1923, the son of Madeline MacPherson Bond. He was raised in Newton, Mass and graduated from The Rivers School. He entered the V-12 program at Williams College, received his naval commission as a Communication Officer where he later graduated. Bob served during WWII as a Lieutenant, jg in the Navy. He remained active with veteran organizations throughout his life; most recently serving as the Finance Officer for the American Legion Post 91 and a member of the Amvets Post #2 both of Yarmouth, Maine.
Bob lived in Hingham, Mass for 33 years while raising his family and working at SD Warren Paper Co. He was an avid golfer belonging to the Cohasset Golf Club in Mass and later the Val Halla Golf Club in Cumberland, Maine. He enjoyed boating in the summer and skiing in the winter with his children. He was a devoted parishioner and strong supporter of the First Parish Congregational Church in Yarmouth, Maine. He was a Deacon for many years, worked at the Yarmouth Clam Festival and was
fondly known as the “Head Bean” for his tireless coordination of the monthly bean suppers.
Bob sold graphic art supplies throughout New England. He retired in 1984, after 38 years at S.D. Warren.
Bob was devoted to and survived by his wife of 23 years, Betty (Hennessey) and his five children: son, Russell MacPherson and wife Susie; daughter Cora Hall and husband Peter; daughter Carolyn Mulcahy; daughter Gail Yalenezian and husband Al; and daughter Janet Cosseboom and husband Rick. Bob had 11 grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. His first wife Margaret Boynton MacPherson predeceased him in 2000 and his brother, Kenneth Paul MacPherson passed earlier this year.
There will be visiting hours on Friday October 18 from 3-5 PM at the Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, Maine. The funeral service will be held on Saturday October 19th at 11 AM at First Parish Congregational Church, 116 Maine Street, Yarmouth, Maine followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. The internment will be at 2:00 PM at Moss Side Cemetery,
