Peggy West Young

She was born in Troy, ME, a daughter of Clarendon V and Sylvia I. (Clifford) West. Peggy graduated from Traip Academy in Kittery. She accepted an apprenticeship at Minot’s Flower Shop in Portland, ME following high school. During that time, she met Walter R. Young and they later married on July 14, 1957.

She earned her certificate for Master Floral Designer while working at Freeport Flower Shop. She co-owned and operated Young’s Perennial in Freeport for many years beside her husband. Peggy and Walt raised six children at the Freeport farm. She was a ferocious reader and could always be found with a book in her lap or sewing quilts for her family.

She was pre-deceased by an infant daughter, Laurie Star.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Walter R. Young; six children, Deborah Coffin and her husband Walter, Scott W. Young and his wife Tracy, Helena Fahey and her husband Richard, Thomas R. Young and his wife Alisha, Peter A. Young, Rebecca Baldwin and her husband Randy; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marianne Urquhart and Judy Lee; aunt, Arlene Clifford.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, Maine.
