Paul Michael Lessard

1965 - 2019

BUXTON – We lost our dear son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend unexpectedly on January 12, 2019.

The son of Janice DeCosta, Freeport, Maine and Paul J. Lessard and wife, Shirley, Topsham, Maine.

Some folks walk through life and leave a small part of themselves with everyone they meet. Paul was such a man. He shared his joy of life through his laughter, his kindness, his love of family and friends.

Truly the saying “Strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet” applied to Paul. He was a gentle giant with a heart of gold. Paul was a humble, talented man who mentored those near and far, taking pride in their successes.

His two passions were camp and his life work at Bayley’s Camping Resort, where the owners and co-workers quickly became his second family and the campers who made his day.

His skills included designing and constructing golf courses; his pride being Fox Ridge in Auburn, Maine, and in recent years, construction of the Bayley Campground expansion. There wasn’t a piece of equipment he couldn’t operate.

He practiced kindness, an automatic response – paying for their groceries because the young couple in front of him could not, in the middle of his work day at Bayley’s, he’d stop to assist a child who was having a rough time carrying wood to her campsite, or he might work late to prepare a campsite so the campers could pull in to start their vacation. Paul was planning a trip to camp this summer inviting young nephews for a visit full of memories, as he’s done over the years with the younger generation.

Whether it be at the campground or at camp, all the kids call him Uncle Paul.

Laughter, he loved sharing the details of an adventure or mishap, even if he was the brunt of it, laughing so hard, making it difficult to get the whole story out.

Paul was known as “ZZ”. When Don Campbell entertained at Bayley’s Campground, Don would stop performing, announcing that “ZZ is in the house” whenever Paul dropped by.

We can never have too many brothers and sisters, be it at work, at camp, hunting and fishing. And his “camp guys” were near and dear to his heart. Paul loved them all.

We will forever miss seeing the twinkle in your eye and hearing that contagious laugh.

So Paul “To the Hunt” it is.

He is survived by his parents and ten sibs.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Paul M. Lessard Memorial Fund, 52 Ross Road, Scarborough, Maine 04074, to benefit family and friends in need. (The direction and guidance will be determined by the Lessard family upon request of distribution.)

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 2nd, 2019 at the Yarmouth AMVETS Hall on North Road, Yarmouth, Maine, 1:00-5:00pm. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, Maine, 04096. 846-4011.
