Sanford- Mary E. Bailey, 87, passed away on January 10, 2018 at Greenwood Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in South Portland a daughter of John and Evelyn (Smith) Stewart. She attended South Portland schools. She later married Norman P. Bailey and they started a family soon after. She started a career in nursing in Gardiner, ME and became a LPN. She worked at Mercy Hospital for many years and most recently worked for a primary care physician before retiring.
They owned a camp in Litchfield for many years where they spent their weekends. She and her husband also enjoyed camping and fishing in and around Lily Bay at Moosehead.
She was predeceased by her husband in 2008 and a son, Louis P. Bailey in 1985.
She is survived by three daughters, Norma J. Gassett and her husband Charlie of Shapleigh, Vickie J. Olivarez and her husband Gil of Hollis and Susan J. Cummings and her husband Brian of Parma, MI; a sister, Dorothy Coromolas of Somerset, MA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Burr Cemetery in Freeport.
